Sunday thoughts and moments

  • I got home from church today feeling like I do a lot of Sunday's after 1:00 church with 2 rambunctious little boys - TIRED and OVERWHELMED. It's like a routine - I feel like I'm not being a good enough mom, I feel like I'm not serving people enough, wondering if my primary kids got ANYTHING out of our time together. I'm thinking of all the things I should be doing to be a better sister in the gospel, a better wife, a better mother - the typical guilt trip I take myself on each week after church. Anyway I was just feeling like I didn't know what to do and Satan was doing a good job at making me feel discouraged. Then I sat down to check some blogs. I came across this quote:

"You just have to do your very best with all the capability you have. You have to do your very best. And somehow, if you do that, God will open the way before you and the sun will shine, and your lives will be fruitful and you will accomplish great good in the world in which you take a part. I couldn't wish for you anything better as I look into your faces this day."

-Gordon B. Hinckley

  • Tonight I said to Gabe, "Honey - will you please help me to be a better mom? If you can help me by obeying me, I will work extra hard at being a good mommy to you and Hunter. So will you help me?" Gabe answered, "Yeah, I will. Heavenly Father will help you too mom." So true - sometimes in my hurried-life I forget the sweet things like that - thanks little buddy!

I know that the everyday life of a young mother is overwhelming. But in the end it is ALL worth it. Just enjoy the time you have with your boys because there will be a time when you will not have the rambunctiousness to deal with.

My mom had a hard time caring for 7 of us, and often wished she didn't have to do it. Now she says that she wishes she had someone to clean up after.

You are doing a good job. Your boys know that Heavenly Father will help you and them. Doesn't that count for a lot? Hang in there! They are sweet boys.

That is an awesome quote and I love Gabe's perspective.

I love that quote from President Hinckley - I copied it off Paul's blog too.

One thing to remember, you have your mother's genes in you and in this family, our best is Super-Human, so don't beat yourself up that you are not "your best" all the time.

Our everyday is usually so over the top it is more than the average person's best. So maybe change that to "just be yourself, Joanna. It IS the best, every day, because you are a choice and special daughter of a Heavenly Father, who LOVES YOU - just the way you are."
