Just a spot for us to blab about what's going on with our family, share ideas and post some scrapbook pages along the way. Most importantly share pictures of our sweet kids for family and loved ones to share our journey with us.

Hunter
growing too fast
I hope that I don't spend too much time worrying about time going by too fast - but at the same time, I hope I can treasure each moment and really enjoy each stage of life that my 2 sweet boys are in. There are moments when I can't wait for Gabe to quiet down some, or get out of a "stage" - but then I remember that once he's out of that stage he'll be in another, and will be one step closer to growing up and away. So here's to cherishing and treasuring each and every moment - even the frustrating ones."We salute you, sisters, for the joy that is yours as you rejoice in a baby’s first smile and as you listen with eager ear to a child’s first day at school which bespeaks a special selflessness...You rock a sobbing child without wondering if today’s world is passing you by, because you know you hold tomorrow tightly in your arms." (Neal A. Maxwell)
(Edited to add: Right after I wrote this post I went in and read naptime stories to Gabe. One of the books we read was a fun counting one that Grandma Tammy brought to him last week. We've been working on counting with him, but he hadn't really gotten it. But today he counted from 1-7!!! And he did it several times! It was so cute to hear him say the next number and my eyes filled with tears...he's growing up pretty darn fast.)

oops...
"I was almost in tears when an older woman came up to me as we left and said,
"Honey - maybe next time you should leave your baby at home with his dad while
you do the shopping". I ran into her with my cart...."
I meant to write "I SHOULD HAVE ran into her with my cart...."
So no, the lines at walmart have not driven me to violence (yet) - I'm just sleep deprived and have "mommy-brain". Guess I should proof-read what I type.
YUM-O
Garden Harvest Toasted Chips
I just bought the Tomato Basil variety and they are SOOO tasty. And a 1 ounce serving (about 16 chips) is only 2 points and LOADED with flavor. And they have 1/4 cup serving of veggies in each serving. I don't feel *too* bad having these as a snack - at least as far as chips go. They satisfy that salty/crunchy craving too. YUM-O! I am excited to buy the Apple Cinnamon ones, and the Garden Veggie (I'm not a huge fan of banana chips). In fact I think I'm going to call Cory on his way home from work and have him see if he can pick some up at the store. And if you go to this part of the website you can sign up for them to send you a free sample. So go for it!
These tasty snacks *almost* make up for the fact that the trip to Walmart I just made was the worst one I've ever had in my entire life! (And that's saying a lot if you've been to my Walmart...) I had a FULL cart and was just about done shopping. I had Hunter with me, and Cory had stayed home to watch Gabe. Anyway - I was just about done and Hunter woke up. And he woke up HUNGRY and wanting to eat immediately. But I had just shopped for an hour +, and couldn't just leave a cart of food sitting there. (But after this experience I wish I had...) I got up to the front to pay and there was not one single line that wasn't at least a 15 minute wait! (I didn't realize that when we got started). Everyone in the store is staring at me because Hunter is screaming and I can see people getting ready to hand out "Worst Parent of the Year" awards - with me as the grand prize winner. However, not one person looked at me and offered to help unload the cart, or help me load my groceries back into the cart as the employee tossed the bags in my direction, or offer to let me go ahead of them - they all just glared at me, shook their head like I was ruining Hunter for life by letting him cry a bit (and I wasn't letting him - I didn't feel like I had much of an option.) I was almost in tears when an older woman came up to me as we left and said, "Honey - maybe next time you should leave your baby at home with his dad while you do the shopping". I ran into her with my cart....
So needless to say it was a bright spot in my day to find a tasty treat to sit down with after a stressful afternoon.

WW - here I come!
Now I just need to work on grocery shopping for fresher foods. It's hard because I want to avoid grocery shopping as much as possible - but in order to eat fresh fruits and veggies - I have to do it somewhat frequently. Otherwise we have an experience like last night where I thought I had a big bag of broccoli in the fridge to go with dinner - but it was already moldy (and it had only been a little over a week since I'd gone shopping!) Anyone have any advice for this delima?
So here we go - another weight loss journey has begun....Wish me luck!

another "we did it!"
Gabe's nursery leaders did comment on the fact that he was really hyper and loud this week...they said he was good, just a bit wild. Yikes - I'm not ready for that kind of a report. Although I have a feeling it won't be the last time....Gabe has been SOOO vocal lately - and I constantly get comments on how much he talks.
And I also got MANY comments at church about how much Hunter looks like Gabe. Everyone who stopped to look at him said, "Oh - he's so cute and little. And he looks JUST like Gabe!" One nice older woman said to me, "You and your husband do good work!" I had to smile. I know I would love my kids no matter what they looked like - but they sure are cute.
Hope all of you have a fantastic Sunday!

3 week pictures
Linzy gives quite the kisses....a bit slobbery, but Hunter didn't mind.
Grandma with her boys. (Doesn't she look too young to be a grandma of 6?!?!)
Gabe has a special place in his heart for Aunt Ashley. He has loved the time he's gotten to spend at their house and is always talking about "Ash-ee". I think daily he tells me he wants to have cake with "Ash-ee" - or tells me how she took him swimming. It's too bad they don't live closer.
As I mentioned before - Hunter has an issue with diapers...and making messes...The last couple of times we've had incidents he's been hilarious! I've said to him, "What are you doing you little stinker! You're making a huge mess everywhere!" And he's just looked at me with a funny expression - kind of like, "he-he mom..." If I wasn't covered in his messes at the time I might be able to catch it on film. But since I am pretty sure my warranty on my camera doesn't include "baby messes" - these pictures will have to be good enough to document his cuteness.
Gabe LOVED on Linzy. He just went up all on his own and gave her the biggest hug - it was so sweet. I hope he always loves his cousins this much. All of his cousins that are close to him in age (Ali - one year older, Linzy - one year younger and Taylor - 2 years younger) are girls. I hope he will always be sweet and loving to them.

Ten for Thursday
- Today Cory's mom and sister Ashley came to visit (and my niece Linzy). They got here about 12:30 and left around 8:00 - so it was just a quick visit so they could meet Hunter and spend some time with Gabe. Gabe LOVED it! He was very excited for them to come. He gave sweet hugs and kisses to Linzy - it was cute. At one point he grabbed her and patted her cheeks and said, "Ahhhhh".
- My favorite thing he did today was when I was putting him down for a nap. I sang his songs to him, tucked him in, and he was supposed to be ready to sleep. But he started getting frustrated and telling me that he wanted "Tammy" to sing to him. I would say, "Grandma Tammy?" and he'd say, "NO - TAMMY!" Yikes - he's even using Grandma's first name...not a good sign.
- Grandma "Tammy" also took Gabe to the park and to get ice cream with Linzy and Aunt Ashley, while I stayed home with Hunter who was napping so I could get some work stuff done. I guess there was a juke box at the ice cream parlor they went to and towards the end of their visit it stopped working. They said Gabe was sad that it wasn't working anymore. He looked around the juke-box and proudly announced that "Dad fix it!" Even at this age Gabe knows that Daddy's can fix anything. When Gabe woke up from his nap he announced to Daddy that he was supposed to fix the music.
- I don't know if I've mentioned how much Hunter loves to hold his head up. He has a very strong head and will hardly even snuggle on my shoulder - because he wants to be up and looking around. Tonight he started kicking his legs really strong too - the kind of kicks where he's trying to stand on his legs.
- "Mom - Get IT!" When Hunter starts crying, or when Gabe just wants me to pick Hunter up he yells for me to "Get IT!" Not to "Get Hunter" - but "IT!" Poor little guy...But on a good note - Gabe has also started calling Hunter his "little buddy" - it is precious! Especially when he calls him that and follows it up with a kiss on Hunter's forehead.
- Tired.....I don't really remember being this exhausted with Gabe....then again, I probably wasn't as exhausted with just one. Makes perfect sense!
- We ran some errands again today, and it wasn't even a total disaster. I walked into Deseret Book to pick up a gift. I had Hunter in the carrier, balanced on my arm, I was struggling to hold Gabe's hand with my other hand, and my purse was falling off my shoulder. The woman at the counter said, "Oh - how cute, a new baby. Is this your first outing with the 2 alone?" I laughed and said, "Almost - is it that obvious?" I guess I did kind of look like a mess. But hey - I had make up on, my hair done - and it was only 10:00! I was pretty proud of myself.
- When we rang up our purchase at Deseret Book Gabe saw some chocolate truffle bars on the counter and yelled that he wanted some "Chochet". The cashier was in awe that he knew those were chocolate. Yeah - he's my son...
- I went to hand Gabe the change when we checked out at a store - some pennies, a quarter. He looked at it disgusted and said, "No - DOLLARS!" Yeah, he's his dad's son.....
- Hunter is 3 weeks old! I cannot believe that it's already been that long. In some ways I don't remember a time he wasn't in our family - and in other ways it does not seem possible that he's already been with us for 3 weeks. I am realizing this time around that these baby days go by WAY too fast. I hope somehow I can capture and remember some of this time instead of walking around with a haze around my head.
(I will post some 3 week pictures later. That is - if I can get some good ones taken.)

It's SCARY....
On a related note - Gabe is trying to decide what he wants to be for Halloween. I asked the other night and without hesitation he yelled out, "PIRATE!" I honestly don't even know if he knows what a pirate is.....but Old Navy does have a pirate costume that doesn't cost too much. (Pottery Barn has an even cuter pirate costume - but I'm not spending $59 on something that he will wear for an hour, 2 at most). So we'll see if he really does want a pirate costume after he sees some of the others out there. He did show some interest in a fireman costume - but still said he wanted to be a pirate.
Trick-or-treating should be fun this year - especially with our little guy's sweet-tooth :)
We did it!
When we left the house I told Gabe that if he was good we'd get a treat. He yelled out "CAKE!" Then he proceeded to tell me that he wanted to buy a cake at Lin's and come back and have cake with candles and hats (like for his birthday). I figured we'd buy a cupcake and celebrate having a successful shopping trip when we got home. However, you could only buy a dozen cupcakes at a time and they looked pretty nasty (you know - with the spraypainted blue frosting and stuff?) Gabe was pretty enthralled by some other single layer cakes they had - so I went for a tasty looking carrot cake.
Well we got home and decided we'd have cake after dinner. However, Gabe rebelled and would not eat dinner. I stuck to my guns and wouldn't let him have cake unless he ate his dinner. (Sometimes I hate being the "mean" mom). So we'll see how lunch goes today and we'll celebrate then.
Anyway, I did want to report that we did make it out of the house, and back again, and hopefully we'll be able to do it as uneventfully as we did yesterday.
Also last night I took Hunter to our Young Woman activity - and almost even made it on time! (We were getting ready to run out the door and his diaper was a mess. So as I changed him he pooped all over me and the clean new diaper, as I cleaned that up he peed on me. I cleaned that up and he peed again all over himself and me! So I got everything cleaned up, handed him to Cory for a minute while I threw some laundry in - and by the time I came back moments later he already needed another diaper. We went through 4 diapers in under 10 minutes!!!) But I put Hunter in a sling that I had from Gabe and we headed to our activity. I had no sooner walked around the block than he was asleep in the sling. I was so glad it worked so well! That may be the answer to getting things done with Gabe and Hunter at the same time.
Lastly - HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAD ELLIS! Hope you have a wonderful day!

Knock on wood...
I have to admit, I'm a bit superstitous. And I'm learning that there are things that you just should never say out-loud, and you should even avoid THINKING! For instance:
- "My kids are so healthy" or "I've felt really great physically since I've had the baby!" Inevitably this is followed by some week long (or more) filled with colds, puking children, nasty headaches/bodyaches, or something equally as pleasant.
- "Baby Hunter is a great sleeper - I'm so lucky." This is quickly followed by a night of getting up every hour, for an hour....wait - does that mean we're up all night long? YUP!
So knock on wood, cross your fingers, throw salt over your left shoulder - whatever it takes. But I'm not ever going to tell you what "good" kids I have, or what awesome sleep habits my children have developed!
Have a great weekend. :)

"WHAT'S FOR DINNER?!?!?"

Thoughts at one week after Hunter's birth
So it's been one week since our sweetie was born. It's gone by fast, and slow - depending on the moment. The sweet moments go by too quickly, and the grumpy moments drag on. It's hard to stay too grumpy though when you see a sweet scene like this:
- Before Hunter was born I started getting worried that with two little boys only two years apart that we'd be dealing with a lot of "hand-me-downs" and shared toys. Now that's not a bad thing for our pocketbook - it's a relief actually. But I just feel bad and hope that Hunter doesn't feel cheated. Anyway, it seems that I have also fallen into the same problem that all parents have - I have been calling Hunter Gabe's name over and over again. I guess it's out of habit. But I feel bad because it seems that not only will this little guy not have any of his own "stuff" - but he doesn't even have his own name!
- I'm already apologizing to Hunter that he can't go to college. Apparently with all the wet/messy diapers he has (SOOOOO many! That little guy 'goes' more than any baby I've known!) we are going to have to use all of his college money to buy diapers :)
- Hunter sure is a cutie! He's been a little more alert/awake the last 24 hours. He spent some time last night on the floor playing with Gabe. Gabe sure thought that was funny.
- Biting, hitting, tearing library books, licking cabinets, spitting, whining, time outs, yelling, throwing things...yeah - I think we've hit the terrible 2's. (this all happened in a matter of minutes)
- Going to the dr for well baby/kid checks with 2 little kids is enough to cause a minor meltdown for a new mommy - especially if the visit includes waiting for almost an hour. (Even if Grandma comes with them - heaven knows how we'll do it in the future by ourselves). Thank goodness it didn't involve any shots today!
- I have little (small) kids. Gabe in particular. He measures in the 10-15% for his height and weight. Hunter has a smaller head than Gabe (he really hasn't gotten anything from me, if I can't even pass on my large head....) and he's in the 20-30% for height and weight. Hunter had gotten back to his birth weight this past week, which the dr said they don't expect until 2 weeks. So he's happy with how much he's put back on. I still think the little guy is pretty skinny....
- Simply thinking about starting Weight Watchers again somehow has a way of making me want to eat chocolate, fast food, chips, and cheese. And try as I might - I swear it makes me hungrier just thinking about the points I shouldn't be eating.
- Getting a little worried about how we're going to manage on our own when my mom goes home...she's been particularly helpful at mealtimes. Especially making sure we have a well balanced dinner to eat. I'm a little worried about the frozen/takeout meals we'll be eating in the upcoming future (see the last bullet point - pretty related).
- Hunter isn't a huge fan of being awake and not eating. He has a hard time sometimes when we try to play with him, or keep him up before it's time for another feeding. I do feed somewhat on-demand, but there are times when it's simply not time for another feeding. Poor guy.
- If nothing else - having Hunter has made Gabe more excited about having his picture taken. Anytime I take the camera out to get a picture of Hunter growing up right before our eyes Gabe gets all excited yelling "CHEESE!" the picture with his tounge sticking out was me trying to come up with something other than the signature smile he's created.

Sleeping the day away
Party time
Hunter was quite the party-er!
Some of our decor. My favorite part of the decorations was the balloons Cory hung from the ceiling fan, and then turned it on low so they floated around.
Here are some photos from our little party last night. When Gabe woke up from his nap Cory put on the Cars soundtrack (loudly) and we danced around the house looking at the decorations (crepe paper and balloons everywhere!). Then we settled down to open presents. Gabe wasn't content with just taking the wrapping paper off the presents - he wanted to open all of the boxes and start playing. He loved the gifts he got and had fun playing with all of them! Thanks to everyone for being so generous.
Then we had a birthday dinner of pancakes (one of Gabe's favorite foods) with strawberries and whip cream. He still wanted CAKE for dinner - so we thought that pan-CAKES would work so we didn't feel too guilty for a sugary dinner :).
After dinner we got out the cake - a CARS cake. (Everything was CARS themed). Gabe was super excited about it and loved blowing out the candles. However, the minute we put the piece of cake in front of him I think he ate all of 2 bites, and played with the frosting some. But after all the fuss he'd been making for the last weeks and particularly all day of his birthday - he didn't dig into the cake like we thought he would. It was pretty funny.
Thanks to everyone for their birthday wishes and the gifts - you were all so sweet!
